TANK-TYPE WATER HEATERS
Tank-type water heaters need to be flushed annually to remove sediment build up that acts as a barrier between the water and heating elements, or burner, significantly reducing efficiency. Additionally, the anode rods, which prevent corrosion, have a finite usable life and need to be monitored and replaced every 3-4 years. Filters placed in the pipes can also significantly limit the amount of sediment that reaches the tank, reducing the number of flushes required.
TANKLESS WATER HEATERS
Tankless water heaters have become popular in the last decade due to their size, efficiency, and ability to provide unlimited hot water. Although they offer these important advantages over traditional tank-type water heaters, they are still susceptible to sediment in the water supply and require flushing twice a year to reduce buildup in the heat exchanger.
